Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) has denounced the planned July 31 nationwide shutdown against the controversial Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3 (CAA3) which was recently signed into law by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The constitutional amendments seek to extend Mnangagwa’s term of office and that of parliamentarians—into law, despite legal challenges and widespread opposition to them.
In a statement CAES interim director Ellison (cde Samuriwo) Muchenje said illegal demonstrations are not good for the country hence people should ignore the alleged demonstrations.
“We are strongly denouncing the alleged demonstrations set for Friday as CAES we are saying let us give President Emmerson Mnangagwa time to develop the counter rather than demonstrating,” he said.
“As CAES we spend years fighting against Sanctions and now some misguided elements want to take us back through demonstrations we say no to that.”
Samuriwo urged the security sector to pounce heavily on protestors.
“We are calling for our security sector to pounce heavily on protestors because we want this Friday to be a normal day,” cde Samuriwo concluded.
