The Muslim community in Zimbabwe marked Al-Quds Day 2025 on Friday, in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Spokesperson Henry Balakazi stated that local Muslims, observing the holy month of Ramadan, gathered alongside Christians, diplomats, and concerned Zimbabweans to pray for global peace and express support for Palestine.

Balakazi highlighted that this year’s commemoration takes place amid the continued expansion of Israeli apartheid policies, the destruction of Palestinian infrastructure, and indiscriminate bombings by Israeli occupation forces. Civilian sites, including churches, mosques, schools, hospitals, homes, and shops, have been severely impacted.

Held in Harare under the theme “Free Palestine, End the Occupation, Stop the Genocide,” the gathering included Iftar, the traditional meal Muslims eat at sunset during Ramadan. The occasion provided an opportunity for families and communities to unite in faith and solidarity.

“ZANU PF, the rulling party has been a vocal condemning the ongoing genocide in Gaza by Israel. The party has consistently aligned itself with the Palestinian struggle for self-determination, drawing parallels between Zimbabwe’s own liberation history and Palestine’s fight against occupation and oppression

“The ZANU PF has denounced Israel’s military actions in Gaza, characterizing them as gross violations of human rights and international law. Party officials have called for an immediate ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian aid access, and justice for Palestinian civilians suffering under Israeli bombardment”, ZANU-PF National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha explained.

Zimbabwe’s government, in line with ZANU PF’s position, has called for diplomatic pressure on Israel and greater efforts to ensure the recognition of Palestinian statehood. The party’s strong anti-imperialist stance reinforces its solidarity with Palestine, echoing historical ties between Zimbabwe and liberation movements across the world.

As the crisis in Gaza continues, ZANU PF remains firm in its condemnation of Israel’s actions and its unwavering support for Palestine, urging global unity in the call for justice, peace, and self-determination for the Palestinian people.

The event was attended by ZANU-PF National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha, who served as the guest of honor. Also present were the chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Tahir, and the cultural chancellor of the Iranian Embassy.
