The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, (POTRAZ), has reported that it will be conducting inspections and assessments from the 1st of September 2026 to ensure that public and private organisations have met the requirements to take out data controllers licences and appointed Data Protection Officers (DPOs) in accordance with the Cyber and Data Protection (Licensing of Data Controllers and Appointment of Data Protection Officers) Regulations.
According to a statement shared by Veritas, a legal information dissemination organisation, POTRAZ officers will inspect and assess organisations in categories starting with those at the top of the list and working downwards.
The categories include financial institutions, insurance companies, local authorities, health care providers, mining enterprises, religious organisations, schools, tertiary educational institutions, professional bodies, government ministries, departments and agencies including Non-governmental organisations and Private Voluntary Organisations .
