HARARE – The Citizens Coalition Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) has expressed solidarity with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the nation following the Mbuya Nehanda ferry tragedy in Kariba.

In a statement, CAES interim leader, Ellison Muchenje Samuriwo conveyed condolences to bereaved families and applauded the government for its swift intervention and the declaration of the incident as a state of national disaster.

“The declaration demonstrates responsible leadership and a commitment to supporting affected communities,” Samuriwo said.

He commended rescue teams and disaster management authorities for providing immediate relief to survivors and families.

Samuriwo also supported the President’s call for national unity during the bereavement period, urging Zimbabweans to show compassion and solidarity.

The sinking of the Mbuya Nehanda ferry has claimed several lives and left others missing. CAES pledged to work with government and stakeholders to mobilise support for affected families and to advocate for stronger maritime safety measures.
