Artificial Intelligence was viewed as a potential game changer in masterminded cybersecurity by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Tatenda Mavetera, at a Symposium held as part of the at the University of Zimbabwe today.

Mavetera who highlighted the risks posed by cybersecurity to the economy and national security highlighted the central role AI had in reversing this challenge across all sectors which,e guaranteeing confidentiality, accessibility of information and integrity.”

As technology continues to shape our everyday lives, the stakes are higher, and the risks, more profound.

We must be proactive in defending our nation’s digital assets and sensitive information from cybercrime, which threatens not only our economy but also our national security.” Mavetera said.

Furthermore, “Today’s symposium, focusing on how artificial intelligence can help predict and mitigate cyber threats, comes at a pivotal moment. AI has the potential to revolutionize our approach to cybersecurity by enhancing our ability to detect threats early, automate response measures, and secure our systems more efficiently.”

More over, “Cybersecurity has become more critical than ever. It protects our most essential services, from financial transactions to healthcare systems, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.” The Chikomba Legislator emphasised.

Calls where made to enhance the efficiency of cybersecurity in detecting threats and automate response through AI while calling for collaboration of a multi sectoral approach to curb cyber threats. ” She also ellucidated.

AI has the potential to revolutionize our approach to cybersecurity by enhancing our ability to detect threats early, automate response measures, and secure our systems more efficiently. It is essential that we explore the integration of AI into our national cybersecurity strategies.” Mavetera added

Furthermore”Through collaborations with academic institutions like the University of Zimbabwe, the private sector, and international partners, we continue to enhance Zimbabwe’s cybersecurity posture. cybersecurity is indeed our shared responsibility.” Mavetera also emphasised.

The symposium was held under the theme, “Building Cyber Resilience through AI: Collaborative Security for a Secure Digital Future,” and was attended by key government officials as it coincisided with the launch of the UZ Cybersecurity Association.
