CITIZENS Against Economic Sanctions, (CAES), led by its chairman, Ellison Samuriwo Muchenje, today took its environmental awareness campaign to Kuwadzana, Harare, where it conducted a community clean-up exercise in support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for a clean and healthy environment.

The exercise brought together CAES leadership and members, who joined hands in cleaning public spaces as part of efforts to promote environmental responsibility and encourage communities to take ownership of their surroundings.

Speaking during the exercise, Samuriwo said it was important for Zimbabweans to embrace President Mnangagwa’s directive on national clean-up campaigns, stressing that keeping the environment clean should be a collective responsibility rather than an obligation left to local authorities.

“President Mnangagwa has given us a clear call to action, and as responsible citizens, we must support his vision by keeping our communities clean. A clean environment is essential for good health, dignity and national development.

“We cannot talk about building our country while neglecting the places where we live. The responsibility starts with each one of us, and we must make cleanliness a culture, not something we do only when there is a national clean-up exercise,” he said.

CAES Harare chairwoman Alice Musarurwa, popularly known as Amai Harare, expressed happiness at hosting the organisation’s leadership and members in Kuwadzana for the exercise.

She said the initiative demonstrated the importance of community participation in maintaining clean neighbourhoods and promoting environmental awareness.

“We are happy to host our national leadership here in Kuwadzana for this important exercise. It shows that we are committed to working with our communities and supporting the President’s call for a clean and healthy Zimbabwe.

“We want residents to understand that keeping our surroundings clean begins at household and community level. We must all take responsibility for the environment we live in,” Musarurwa said.

The Kuwadzana exercise forms part of CAES’s efforts to promote community participation, environmental responsibility and support for national development initiatives
