There is a nasty chieftainship wrangle in Gokwe between the recently installed Kabarapate chieftainship and Chief Chireya’s area over boundaries.
Chief Chireya born Hillary Chidzivo is being accused of murder following the death of Tapson Jichidza.
This publication has it on good record that Chief Chireya’s brother, Pharoh Chidzivo, made an initial report of threats of future violence at Chireya police post under rrb number 6916523.
The police requested for a car to go and arrest the suspect but in the process there was commotion after the police attended the scene.
“When Chief Chireya filed a report at the police station the officers asked for transport assistance and the Chief agreed,” the source said.
“Upon arrival at the scene the Chief remained in his car while the police sought for the suspect unfortunately there was violence and the police were over powered.
It is further alleged that the police ran away and subsequently came armed after calling for back up.
They fired in the air and the mob retreated but in the process of commotion the now deceased Jichidza was found dead the next morning.
Chief Chireya was summoned for questioning and was released.
Surprisingly things have changed after the deceased’s lawyer, Widias Chishiri, changed witnesses’ statements and Chief Chireya is now a suspect together with his investigations officer Agent Chitsinde.
Sources claim Chitsinde is being pressed to reveal who killed Jichidza.
“The police officer is now a murder suspect and the authorities are demanding answers from him to reveal who killed the now deceased, although he is insisting that he does not know since the person died after the mayhem.” the source explained.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the murder case and arrest of Chief Chireya.
It is further alleged that Gokwe District Development Coordinator Martin Musakanda and Chief Kabarapate are pushing for the arrest of Chief Chireya who was not detained after the murder case on October 13.
The police have since summoned the Chief in a bid to detain him after pressure from his rival.
