Harare, Zimbabwe – Over 500 youths from all ten provinces converged in Harare for a youth conference organised by The United Apostolic Faith Church, led by Arch-Bishop Busani Sibanda. The conference aimed to mobilise young people to take a stand against social ills plaguing the nation, including early child marriages, gender-based violence and substance abuse.

Addressing the youths, Arch-Bishop Sibanda emphasised the importance of young people becoming agents of change in their communities.

“We are calling on our youths to be ambassadors of positive change, to stand up against the injustices that are destroying our society, and to work towards creating a better future for all,” he said.

The youths, in turn, pledged to take a stand against these social evils.

“I promise to be a role model in my community, to speak out against early child marriages, and to support those who are victims of gender-based violence,” said youth pastor, Shandirayi Mupfurutsa.

“I will not tolerate substance abuse in my community,” added 21-year-old Brian Moyo from Bulawayo.

“I will work with my peers to educate others about the dangers of drugs and to support those who are struggling with addiction,” another youth leader, Linety Mukutirwa said.

Other youths pledged to support government initiatives aimed at combating these social ills, and to promote a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusivity.

Arch-Bishop Sibanda commended the youths for their commitment, saying, “This is a moment of great hope for our nation. When our youths take a stand, we can be assured of a brighter future.”

The conference ended with a call to action, urging all stakeholders to work together to create a society that values the dignity and worth of every human being.
