A 47-YEAR-OLD Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officer stationed at Plumtree is in soup after he allegedly released a rape convict.

Yusufu Yusufu was dragged to Plumtree magistrate court where he appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware.

Yusufu was granted $100 bail.

The state led by Sheila Nyathi alleged sometime last year Cabangani Mathe was an inmate at Plumtree prison serving a 20 year jail term for rape where the accused person works.

Yusufu and Mathe hatched a plan for the escape of Mathe from Prison.

The accused person aided the convict to escape by providing him with two hacksaw blades, instructing him to use them to cut through the burglar bars of his holding cell window.

The inmate executed his escape plan over a period of five days, cutting through three bars while concealing his activities under the guise of cleaning the holding cell.

On November 15 last year, the inmate successfully escaped between 0100hours and 0200 hours after completing the cutting of the burglar bars leaving behind the hacksaw blades and cut bars within his holding cell.
