Golden Triangle security manager, Timothy Libombo, is assisting police with investigations after he fired at illegal gold miners who were picking ore at Eureka gold mine dump site.
Libombo injured three miners from his shot, and one miner, Tinotenda Nyangwasha, succumbed to a gun wound.
Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the case.
“We are investigating a murder case that happened yesterday at Eureka Mine in Guruve,” Mundembe said.
It is further alleged that two of the miners who were also shot by Libombo are in stable condition.
Villagers have raised concern over the continuous killing of illegal miners at the mine.
“Our children are being killed every year by Eureka Mine guards. What is more worrisome is that these illegal miners are being killed while picking dump,” lamented Diana Mazhambe.
Kudzai Shumba said, ” The mine is failing to co-exist with our children here look, the boy who died is just 17 year old and was an O’ level student last year, we have lost life due to recklessness.”
Eureka Mine spokesperson Tinago Tinago referred all questions to police.
Meanwhile, police has warned people who use firearms to respect the sanctity of life.
