Zimbabwe and Zambia have agreed to facilitate the development of a fuel pipeline between themselves; a move that not only bares witness to SADC Regional co-operation, lowers carbon emission, but further potentially reduces road carnage.
“Cabinet approved the above-stated memorandum, through which Zimbabwe and Zambia wish to facilitate the development of a new pipeline system to transport refined petroleum from Zimbabwe to Zambia.” The Chairman of the Post Cabinet Media briefing, Jenfan Muswere said in Harare today followingthe Cabinet Resolution.
The move is anchored on Zimbabwe’s argued capacity to manage oil and it’s subsequent bi-products as guaranteeing the capacity to transfare to Zambia.
“The Memorandum of Understanding leverages on Zimbabwe’s existing capacity for oil and gas storage, processing and transportation coupled with Zambia’s growing demand for affordable and efficient energy use.” Muswere further highlighted.
The move is expected to aide in lowering both emissions and mortality virtue of the subsequent reduction in road traffic and the unfortunate carnage that might result.
“Transporting fuel to Zambia by pipeline is expected to take fuel tankers off the roads, thereby reducing damage to road infrastructure.” Muswere concluded.
The move is expected to enhance biodiversity and reduce human-Wildlife Conflicts as the area of focus is predominantly a Wildlife community with the project implementation expected to bolster employment.
