ZANU PF Commissariat, Director for Research, Strategy, and Liaison, Dr Davison Todson Gomo is being accused of working with perceived G40 members causing fissures within the ruling party.
There are allegations that Dr Gomo received a bribe from Saviour Kasukuwere’s ally, Reverend Benjamin Murata, who is now interfering with the party affiliates.
“It’s shocking that Dr Gomo is working with an ally of Kasukuwere, Reverend Murata who is a well-known land baron running the ‘Pure Gold Housing Trust’.There are rumours that he got US$20 000 and a house in Kwekwe,” said a source close to the development.
“Right now,Dr Gomo has very little to do as G40 members are coming back and hijacking party affiliates to orchestrate their return,” added the source.
One youth league member who preferred anonymity blasted Dr. Gomo for being blinded by money by letting the party be infiltrated.
“All for the love of money, the party is now at the mercy of G40 elements like Murata.Dr Gomo should be stopped from allowing such machinations.
“Kasukuwere has been vocal of late on social media promising to stage a big comeback and take control of the party hence our worries that his ally Murata is being accorded a chance to interfere with party affiliates. These are the same affiliates that were key in mobilising support for the president in last year’s elections,” said the youth league member.
There have been tensions in Zanu PF since President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced that he is not going for a third term. A group comprising mainly Mnangagwa loyalists are pushing for him to rescind his decision while a rival group is tipping Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to take over.
The emergence of the pro-Kasukuwere group led by Murata in connivance with Dr Gomo then makes the succession issue a major source of contention within the ruling party.
