The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development has rolled out a brand-new honour — *the Best Agricultural Business Advisory Officer and VET of the Year Award* — to celebrate the hard work and dedication of extension officers who power Zimbabwe’s agricultural success.
The launch took place today at Banket Sports Club, Mashonaland West, where Permanent Secretary *Prof. Dr. Obert Jiri* praised these unsung champions:
“This award celebrates those of our extension officers who are doing so much in the wards they serve. They are the vanguard of our agricultural transformation strategy,” he said.
Prof. Jiri also highlighted that President Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa has a deep appreciation for the role of extension officers, equipping them with motorbikes, tools of trade, and recently, solar-powered kits to boost their efficiency. He revealed that an E-Extension mobile application has also been developed to provide real-time information and guidance — ensuring officers remain a driving force in transforming agriculture.
“By nurturing a strong business culture among farmers, especially smallholders, extension officers can significantly boost production, productivity, and national food security,” Prof. Jiri added.
Two dedicated Agriculture Business Advisory Officers — Nyasha Gonde of Mhondoro Ngezi and Mushambi Tigere — expressed excitement over the awards, confident that recognising excellence will inspire innovation, improve productivity, and strengthen food security in Zimbabwe.
The awards are proudly sponsored by Shumba Group and other partners — a clear show of commitment to the power of collaboration in uplifting Zimbabwe’s rural communities and agricultural future.
👏 *Here’s to our Rural Heroes — turning the soil, planting the seeds, and harvesting the future of our nation!*
