The Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU) and its affiliate unions including PROTEC, ZINUSH, ZDTU, ZINEU, the Health Sector Union, and PTUZ held the inaugural public sector May Day Commemorations at Allan Wilson High School in Harare.

The event, held in partnership with the Public Service Commission (PSC), celebrated the unwavering dedication of workers across all sectors.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Mercy Dinha who was the guest of honour emphasised that, “This is a day of celebration where we recognise the unwavering strength, resilience, and dedication of workers across all sectors. Your invaluable contributions are the bedrock upon which communities are built,” the Deputy Minister said.

Workers marched from ZIMTA House to Allan Wilson High School, where various speakers, including the chairperson of Service Commissions and the president of ZCPSTU, addressed attendees.

The PSC’s commitment to engaging workers through the National Joint Negotiating Council, a platform for collective bargaining, was highlighted.

Zivaishe Zhou, secretary general of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Professionals and Technical Association, said the event has the potential to foster collaboration between workers and the Government.

“This day allowed us to mix and mingle with various organisations and our listening Government,” Zhou said.

The event proved to be a pivotal moment for promoting unity within the nation’s workforce, setting a tone for future collaboration and progress.
