- Zanu PF Harare Metropolitan Province has rallied firmly behind businessman, Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, praising his disciplined and development-focused approach, which party leaders say has invigorated the party’s urban support.
This comes after he conducted feedback rallies across the capital without attacking or denigrating any individual, instead concentrating solely on empowerment, unity and party mobilisation.
Provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa yesterday said the province was united and energised by Tagwirei’s conduct and growing role, which he described as a practical demonstration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s development-driven vision.
“As Harare Metropolitan Province, we are starting 2026 in a buoyant mood as we continue to thank His Excellency, the President, Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, for allowing Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei to work within Harare to reinvigorate the party’s mobilisation strategies and strengthen programmes suited to an urban environment such as ours,” Masimirembwa said.
He said following the 22nd Zanu PF People’s National Conference in Manicaland, the province held inter-district meetings across all six administrative districts to unpack the conference resolutions, with Tagwirei playing a leading role in explaining the economic cluster resolutions and the party’s empowerment thrust.
“Among the key speakers in our districts was Comrade Tagwirei, who spoke passionately about economic empowerment for our people and the implementation of the 2030 resolution that His Excellency must remain in office until 2030,” Masimirembwa said.
Masimirembwa said what had distinguished Tagwirei’s engagements was his refusal to personalise politics or attack fellow party members or opponents during the feedback rallies.
“He did not come to attack anyone. He spoke about development, unity and empowerment, exactly as His Excellency the President always teaches us,” Masimirembwa said.
Tagwirei, who has been at the centre of several empowerment initiatives in the capital, also delivered a revolving fund of more than US$2 million for Harare residents, aimed at supporting small businesses, informal traders and youth-led enterprises. The fund has already benefited vendors, transport operators, backyard manufacturers and women-run projects in high-density suburbs.
In addition, Tagwirei distributed Christmas hampers on behalf of President Mnangagwa to vulnerable families across the province and supported the refurbishment of clinics, the provision of hospital equipment and the supply of household utensils to struggling communities.
Several beneficiaries said the interventions had brought relief at a time when many households were battling rising living costs.
“Dr Tagwirei did not come here to make speeches only. He brought real help,” said a market trader from Mbare. “The revolving fund allowed me to restock my stall and now I can send my children to school.”
Another resident from Kuwadzana said the clinic support had eased pressure on local health facilities. “We now have equipment and basic supplies. This is development we can see and touch,” she said.
Masimirembwa said the impact of the programmes was already being reflected in the party’s growing support base in the capital.
“We have seen our numbers, particularly those coming from the opposition, increasing. Even our own members who had become reluctant to attend party programmes are now coming out in large numbers,” he said.
He stressed that the province had remained focused on unity, peace and development, in line with President Mnangagwa’s message.
“Harare Metropolitan Province has never denigrated anyone. We speak about peace, unity, development and progress. We are now more united than ever before and clear about our objective, which is to popularise the party,” Masimirembwa said.
He said Tagwirei had become a key figure in executing that objective, not through rhetoric but through tangible development.
“He does not talk about personalities. He talks about development. He talks about His Excellency the President as the enabler of the progress Zimbabwe is experiencing,” Masimirembwa said.
Looking ahead, the provincial chairperson expressed confidence that 2026 would mark a turning point for the party in the capital.
“We are extremely happy and excited. We see 2026 as a year in which membership in Harare Metropolitan Province could reach one million,” he said.
Zanu PF members attending the rallies praised Tagwirei’s hands-on approach and practical support for urban communities.
“Dr Tagwirei is showing us what true party leadership looks like—he empowers people, supports our members and strengthens the party without sowing division.” Another party official, Irene Chikomo, added, “We salute him for his dedication.
He is bringing Zanu PF closer to the people, especially in high-density suburbs where support had waned,” Zanu Pf member said.
