Uganda’s long serving President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, is in Kenya for a three day state visit as anounced by the Kenyan President, William Ruto, on social media today as the countries seek to bolster thier trade partnership.
Speaking on social media, Ruto said, “Uganda is Kenya’s historical ally, a good neighbour and the largest trading partner. The peoples of our two countries are one people, and our interests are mutual. We work very closely at the bilateral and multilateral levels, in the East African Community and the African Union.”
Taking to Twitter Museveni also said, “I am grateful to President Ruto for the invitation to discuss important issues affecting our two nations and East Africa.”
Yoweri bemoaned the continent’s failure to meet the historical expectations to development and set the visit as depicting a potentially new narrative to Africas role in global economic centrality.
“The agreements we signed during my visit carry the weight of historical context, aligning with our long-awaited missions. Over 60 years ago, Africa gained independence, yet the true depth of our historical mission remained unexplored.” Museveni said.
Africa while boasting of natural resourses and favourable climate for agriculture continues to linger in poverty as blamed on leaders’ corruption, technical shortcomings while the blamed anglo, franco and saxofon colonialism seems to have been replaced by a neo Sino colonialism, adding surrering on resources and the generál populace.
Trade between the two countries amounts to around a billion US$ annually with Kenya exporting steel, cement and Palm oil, as Uganda exports electricity and milk products.
