GOKWE-NEMBUDZIYA — As Zimbabwe marked its 45th Independence Anniversary, President Emmerson Mnangagwa hailed the transformative strides achieved under the Second Republic, highlighting infrastructure development, rural empowerment, economic resilience, and inclusive governance as central pillars of national progress.

Addressing thousands at the national celebrations held in Nembudziya, Gokwe North, President Mnangagwa described the past 45 years as a journey of resilience and growth, marked by the determination of Zimbabweans to build a prosperous and self-sustaining nation.

“As we mark this day, we can look back at the past with pride, knowing what we have achieved as a united and hardworking people. From the household level to the national stage, we are defying odds and achieving remarkable development successes,” he said.

The First Secretary of ZANU PF reaveled that despite facing economic sanctions, climate-induced disasters, and efforts to destabilize national cohesion, Zimbabwe remains steadfast in its pursuit of Vision 2030—a strategic blueprint for achieving upper middle-income status.

President Mnangagwa added that despite enduring sanctions, climate shocks, and attempts to destabilise national unity, the country remains firmly on course towards Vision 2030 a roadmap for achieving an upper middle-income economy.

Rural Transformation and Land Reform

A cornerstone of President Mnangagwa’s administration is the ongoing rural transformation agenda. Central to this effort is the comprehensive land reform program, which now includes the issuance of title deeds to A1 and A2 farmers, including war veterans, thus providing tenure security and empowering farmers to invest in productivity-enhancing initiatives.

“The land, our inalienable heritage, is being put to productive use. We anticipate a bumper harvest this season and will restock the Strategic Grain Reserve,” said the President.

Furthermore, the regularisation of urban and peri-urban settlements is in progress, and the Agriculture Transformation Strategy is strengthening food security through increased output, mechanisation, and rural industrialisation.

Livestock, Irrigation, and Climate Resilience

To uplift livelihoods and counteract the effects of climate change, the government has intensified its livestock development initiatives. Presidential Heifer, Piggery, and Poultry schemes are empowering women, youth, and veterans of the liberation struggle. These programmes aim not only to fight poverty but also to foster self-reliance.

Private-public partnerships are driving irrigation expansion, with 100,000 hectares targeted for irrigation development. This approach, President Mnangagwa noted, is essential for building resilience against climate shocks such as the El Niño-induced drought experienced last season.

“Our Food Deficit Mitigation Programme ensured no Zimbabwean went hungry,” he affirmed, citing both rural food aid and urban cash transfers to vulnerable households” said the President.

Infrastructure and Climate Response

Responding to the increasing frequency of climate disasters, The Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces highlighted that the government has stepped up investments in disaster-resilient infrastructure. In cyclone-prone areas like Chimanimani, Chipinge, Tsholotsho, and Gokwe, critical infrastructure — including roads, clinics, and schools is being upgraded to withstand natural calamities.

“More than 400 solarised boreholes have been drilled in Midlands Province, improving access to clean water and supporting irrigation projects in rural communities. Houses for flood victims have been completed and are ready for commissioning, showcasing a proactive approach to disaster recovery and preparedness”, said the President.

Industrial Growth and Youth Empowerment

President Mnangagwa outlined that Zimbabwe’s mining sector is projected to grow by 5.6% this year, driven by global commodity price surges and new mining ventures. Downstream industries are being strengthened, with capacity utilisation in the manufacturing sector increasing from 43% to 50%, especially in the pharmaceutical sub-sector.

He reaveled that government has also prioritised youth empowerment, technical skills development, and support for MSMEs. Through tax incentives and financing schemes, more youth and women-led enterprises are participating in domestic and international trade.

Social Services and Education

On Social Services and Education , His Excellence added that over 1.5 million vulnerable learners are benefiting under the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM). New schools and classrooms have been built, especially in rural and resettlement areas. Energy access is also expanding, with electrification of rural institutions enhancing service delivery.

In addition to the health sector is undergoing major reforms, with enhanced infrastructure, access to specialist care, and greater private sector involvement in establishing health facilities across provinces.

Unity and Participation: A Call to Action

President Mnangagwa has consistently emphasized that the journey towards a prosperous Zimbabwe can only be achieved through collective effort, unity, and active citizen participation. In his national addresses and public engagements, the President has called upon all Zimbabweans — regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or political affiliation — to come together and play a meaningful role in the national development

“This inclusive call reflects the spirit of the Second Republic, which is anchored on the philosophy of “leaving no one and no place behind.” It recognizes that every Zimbabwean, whether in rural communities like Gokwe Nembudziya or in urban centers, has a unique contribution to make in building the Zimbabwe we all want”, said the President.

President Mnangagwa’s vision is clear: development is not the responsibility of government alone. It requires unity of purpose across all sectors of society — youth, women, the elderly, churches, traditional leaders, businesspeople, farmers, and even the diaspora community. Whether it’s through participating in national clean-up campaigns, supporting local development initiatives, investing in local enterprises, or simply being ambassadors of peace and unity, every act counts.

Importantly, the President has stressed that political differences must never be allowed to derail the national vision. “We may belong to different political parties,” he has said, “but when it comes to development, we must speak with one voice, because Zimbabwe is our common home.”

Nembudziya: A Beacon of Transformation

As Gokwe Nembudziya continues to rise through visible infrastructure development and economic progress, it stands as a perfect example of what can be achieved when people unite behind a shared vision.

The gains being made are proof that when citizens answer the call to participate, transformation becomes inevitable.

Indeed, the future of Zimbabwe lies not in division, but in unity. Not in spectatorship, but in full participation. As President Mnangagwa continues to lead with wisdom and resolve, every Zimbabwean is encouraged to take ownership of their role in building a brighter tomorrow.

Apart from hosting this year’s vibrant Independence Day celebrations, Nembudziya has rapidly transformed into one of the leading growth points in the country. Under the visionary leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the area has seen remarkable development across various sectors.

In a telephone interview, with this publication, ZANU PF Midlands Province Chairman, Edson Chakanyuka Chiherenge, reaveled that, the construction of a well-equipped stadium has brought a new energy to the community, providing a space for sporting events, cultural showcases, and social gatherings. This stadium is fast becoming a center of community pride and youth engagement.

“Proudly boasts a fully established School of Nursing, which not only enhances access to medical training but also contributes to the overall healthcare system in the region. A modern hotel has also been built, catering to the increasing influx of visitors and boosting local tourism and business opportunities.

“Furthermore, the installation of NetOne booster stations throughout the province has significantly improved mobile connectivity and internet access. This digital infrastructure is critical in bridging the rural-urban divide and opening doors to innovation, e-learning, and e-commerce.

“All these developments are a direct result of the strategic vision and commitment to inclusive development championed by His Excellency, President Mnangagwa. The people of Nembudziya and the greater Midlands Province are proud beneficiaries of this transformative leadership, and the future looks even more promising”, Chiherenge explained.

Chiherenge highlighted that development in Gokwe Nembudziya continues to unfold at an impressive pace, reflecting the commitment of the Second Republic to decentralize services and bring essential infrastructure closer to the people. Today, residents of Nembudziya can proudly testify to the remarkable transformation taking place right in their own backyard.

“One of the most significant milestones is the establishment of a Magistrates’ Court right in Nembudziya. Previously, residents were forced to travel to Gokwe Centre to attend court sessions—a time-consuming and often costly journey. Now, justice is being served closer to home, making the legal system more accessible, efficient, and responsive to local needs.

“Equally transformative is the electrification of the area, spearheaded by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). What was once a dream has now become a reality—our homes, institutions, and businesses are now powered by electricity. This development not only improves the quality of life for our people, but also opens doors to new economic activities, education opportunities, and health services.

” Sports and recreation have also been uplifted, with our Division One football team, representing Gokwe North, set to use the newly built stadium in Nembudziya as their home ground. This investment in sports infrastructure is key to nurturing talent, promoting youth development, and enhancing community pride.

In addition, the establishment of a local mortuary has brought dignity and convenience to bereaved families. No longer do residents have to transport their loved ones over long distances for storage and preparation—these critical services are now available within our community.

” All these developments—justice delivery, electrification, sporting infrastructure, and health services—are not by coincidence, but a direct result of the visionary leadership of His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. Under the Second Republic, Gokwe Nembudziya is being transformed from a rural outpost into a vibrant hub of progress and opportunity”, said Chiherenge.

Gokwe -Nembudziya stands not only as a model of rural transformation but also as a bastion of unwavering loyalty to the ruling party, ZANU PF. Since the historic year of 1980, this constituency has remained a stronghold of the revolutionary party, consistently delivering resounding victories at the ballot box. Even in the face of opposition challenges over the decades, Gokwe Nembudziya has stood firm—its voice clear and unshaken in support of ZANU PF.

This enduring loyalty is not accidental. It is rooted in the tangible developmental gains and the strong relationship between the leadership and the people. Under the Second Republic, led by the visionary President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the constituency has reaped the benefits of deliberate, people-centered policies.

The people of Gokwe Nembudziya have always understood the importance of continuity, stability, and visionary governance. Their consistent support for ZANU PF reflects a deep-seated trust in the party’s mission to empower communities, uplift rural economies, and preserve the gains of independence.

What was once a rural outpost is now a hub of opportunity. Under the Second Republic, we are witnessing real change,” he concluded.

As Zimbabwe continues its journey under the Second Republic, the story of Gokwe-Nembudziya serves as a shining example of what is possible when communities, government, and leadership are united in purpose. The nation’s future lies not in division, but in solidarity — not in waiting, but in active participation. And as President Mnangagwa’s administration pushes ahead with Vision 2030, every citizen is called upon to play their part in shaping a prosperous, inclusive Zimbabwe.
