Over 90 employees at Mazowe Rural District Council in Mashonaland Central province are threatening to down tools sighting poor financial management by the council which has seen them going for months without full salaries.
The rural council which overseers service delivery operations in Concession, Glendale, Chiweshe and Mazowe is reportedly reeled by monetary struggles with employees accusing the Director of Finance at Mr Obert Magasi for ineptness.
Magasi was previously suspended insubordination from work in June 2021 and was reinstated in December 2023 him with workers recently signing a petition against him.
In a comment to the publication, another employee who spoke on condition of anonymity said there was a plethora of issues emanating from Magasi office which is causing the deplorable financial state of the council employees.
“We submitted our grievance to the CEO recently and our main issues are to do with the authority in charge of finances, Magasi, he has no team work, he has been creating numerous salary arrears by paying us in percentages.
“Magasi was suspended in 2021 due to unethical code of conduct which saw him verbally harassing councillors and employess, after he got reinstated he also started to make sure we do not get our full salaries and we know it’s just sheer malice from him,” revealed the employee.”
MRDC council chairman John Mudzonga and CEO Liberty Mufandaedza were not all available for comment during the time of publishing.
However, this publication is reliably informed that employees are calling for the removal from office of Magasi, “besides our welfare as council employees we also have reason for demanding his removal from office especially considering how he is failing to run the surrounding areas under our purview.
“Of late service delivery has deteriorated in areas like Glendale, Concession and Nzvimbo due to the ineffectiveness to deal with rate payers, so our appeal is that there should be some office of high authority to come and probe activities by Magasi so that we get saved from all these woes,” added the source.
