Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, September 22, 2025 (ECA) – Following numerous calls from the African creative writing community, the organizers of the 2025 Conference on Land Policy in Africa (CLPA), a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB), have extended the call for submissions of short stories examining issues of land governance, justice, and reparations for Africans and descendants of the African diaspora.

According to the African Land Policy Centre, which serves as the CLPA secretariat, the new October 20 deadline should give authors more time to submit their stories by the deadline. Selected contributions will be published in the second Anthology of Short Stories on Land Governance, and the three best contributions will receive a small prize as a token of appreciation.

As part of the discussions surrounding the 2025 edition of the said Conference, which will be held from November 10 to 14, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this second anthology also seeks to reimagine the possibilities of land governance in Africa through fiction of various genres.

These short stories are used in training programs to complement technical approaches to land governance on the continent, in the context of the African Union’s land agenda. Authors from the African continent and the diaspora, particularly young Africans, are encouraged to submit their works before the new deadline of October 20, 2025.
