By Simbarashe Sithole in Mutare

Sungura legend Alick Macheso’s chanter, Jonas “baba Sophia” Kasamba, missed last night’s show dubbed Sanganai special night in Mutare at Platinum Leisure Centre.

Mutare is hosting the world Expo Sanganai/ Hlanganani/ Kumbanayi for the first time following  government’s effort to decentralise national  events and music lovers packed the venue where Sulumani Chimbetu was sharing the stage with Macheso.

Macheso told fans that Kasamba was not present because he is mourning his father in-law who passed on.

“Our bosses we are saddened to inform you that ‘baba Sophia’ is not with us today because he lost his father in-law hence we mourn with him,” Macheso said.

Chimbetu proved to be a genius as he played tune after tune there by mesmerising the fans.

Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Tongai Mnangagwa and other tourism players were in attendance.

Mutare came to light after Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi brought so many people from all over the world hence business has boosted.

The Expo was launched yesterday by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

The prestigious event is running under the theme “Devolving Sustainable Tourism Development — Our Future”, this year’s edition underscores Government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth through decentralisation of key national events and full exploitation of the country’s diverse tourism assets.
