GURUVE – Over 400 illegal miners invaded Eureka Mine in Guruve, Mashonaland Central province, prompting the Zimbabwe Republic Police to respond with teargas to disperse the crowd. The miners had stormed the mine, barely few days after a fatal shooting incident involving security guards and artisanal miners.
When contacted by Afrodimensions, mine spokesperson Tinago Tinago said he was unaware of the incident, citing his absence over the weekend and lack of briefing on the development.
This incident follows previous clashes between security guards and artisanal miners, including a shooting that left one miner dead. Mash Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe is yet to give confirmation of the latest incident.
Last week a security manager from Golden Triangle at Eureka Mine shot three miners at the mine and killed one teenager, Tinotenda Nyangwasha.
