Homeground pool team is this year’s Guruve Pool League (GPL) champions after sailing through the exciting season.

The team were crowned champions on Sartuday at a colourful event in Guruve, Vikela’s Homeground.

The 21 teams ended their games last week with Homeground attaining 125 points and the second placed Padya team had 118 points.

The guest of honour at the event Mr Lazarus Butiza thanked the league for their enthusiasm in fighting drug abuse.

“The league has proven that when youths are engaged in constructive activities like pool, they develop discipline, teamwork, and focus — values that go beyond the table and into life.
To the young people gathered here: your talent is clear, your energy is unmatched — and your future is bright. Let this game not just be a pastime but a path away from dangerous habits. Sport is your voice, your stage, your strength,” he said.

Speaking on the same event GPL Chairman Mr Joram Hwande who was represented by Mr Ignatious Wambe said Homeground’s hard work paid off for them.

“To our champions, *HOMEGROUND* — your discipline, teamwork, and determination have paid off. Congratulations! You have set the bar high and shown us what it means to be the best.

To our runners-up, do not be disheartened. You have shown great potential and we believe you will come back even stronger next season.

A special thank you goes to our volunteers, referees, patrons, and everyone who contributed to making this season a success,” Hwande said.

Meanwhile, as the off-season begins most teams will be offloading and taking new players for a better competition next season.
