Harare City Council (HCC) has failed to fix Sewage flowing in the Capital city of Zimbabwe.

HCC had promised to fix the problem from Union Avenue to Harare Street by Sartuday but to date the sewage is still flowing,  posing a serious health risk

The business community has raised concern calling for immediate action.

This publication is reliably informed that ZB Bank Union brach among several business companies sent their complaint to Harare City Council (HCC).

HCC spokesperson Stanley Gama confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the sewer blockage was caused by rags and other materials.

“The recent sewer blockages in the Kopje area,
along R. Mugabe Road and Kaguvi Street were
caused by rags and other items dumped into the sewer systems.

“Our teams have isolated most upstream
lines from a 9m-deep sewer manhole to
facilitate unblocking.” Gama also highlighted

“This is a major operation
due to the depth and complexity of removing
the rags and other materials dumped in the sewer lines lines,” Gama said.

We expect to fully restore the lines by
Saturday 31 January. Once again we appeal to our residents to desist from dumping garbage in the sewer lines as this is the major cause of most blockages in the city, ” Gama said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Harare City Council is battling a recurring cholera outbreak, driven by burst sewers, water shortages, and unsafe water sources.
