MUKUMBURA – A tragic road accident occurred in the early hours of November 17, 2025, along the Harare-Mukumbura highway, claiming one life and injuring 12 others. The sole party involved, 31-year-old Samuel Mwaire, was driving a cream-colored Canter truck northbound toward Harare with 12 passengers and 30 goats on board.

According to Mashonaland Central Deputy Police Spokesperson, Lucy Chigwenhese, the accident happened around 2 a.m. near the 222 km peg. Mwaire allegedly engaged a wrong gear while traveling uphill, causing the vehicle to roll backward and overturn on its left side. The injured were rushed to Mt Darwin Hospital, where one passenger was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mwaire, a resident of Sanangura Village, Chief Chiswiti, Mukumbura, holds a Zimbabwean driver’s license for classes 2, 4, and 5. He’s set to face charges of culpable homicide under Section 46(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Act. Investigations are ongoing.
