MATOBO – Blinded by love and failing to stand the sight of his younger brother’s right to life over suspicious involvement in a previous divorce with former wife landed Xolani Dube (36) in custody over murder of Gift Dube in Matebeleland recently.
Xolani Dube was remanded in custody to 27 June 2025 at Gwanda provincial court following this alleged incident.
Appearing before Senior Magistrate, Busani Sibanda, the accused was advised to apply for bail at the High Court or seek consent of the provincial public prosecutor.
Allegations were that on June 12, 2025 at around 20:00 hours at Soul Ngwenya’s homestead in Mahetshe village under Chief Fuyana (Matobo) the accused person had a misunderstanding with his now deceased younger brother, Gift Dube arising from suspicion that he (Gift) caused his divorce with the former’s wife some months ago.
Xolani wanted to chase Gift away from his room and severely assaulted the later using a wooden axe handle which was taken from behind the door.
Due to continuous assault, Gift Dube’s head skull fractured until his brains protruded and died on the spot.
Noting that he killed his brother Gift, the accused, (Xolani), went to Maphisa police post and reported the matter leading to his arrest after surrendering to law enforcement agencies.
The matter adds to the continued increase of hate induced as violent crime that has grown within the Zimbabwean space, seeking to evade the dictates of the children’s, sexual, financial, political and social space.
