Masvingo based suspected robber Alfred Mukwazhe (42) is nursing a gun wound after he was shot at Yingcan Cadogan mine in Shamva last week.

The Chinese national Tang Hongbo allegedly fired two warning shots to scare the machete wielding Mukwazhe who was accompanied by his friend.

Acting Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha confirmed the case.

Allegations are that on November 21 the two suspected robbers cut a fence at the mine and gained entry during the midnight.

They stormed the guard room wielding machetes and the Chinese national was parked there.

He saw the two coming and shouted to stop them but they continued advancing.

He pulled a pistol fired two warning shots before pointing at Mukwazhe.

Mukwazhe was shot and he fell down.

The mine manager Moris Mutonhodza together with Hongbo went to pick Mukwazha who was bleeding from the gun wound.

They rushed him to Shamva hospital before filing a police report.

Police recovered the gun and three empty cartridges from Yingcan.
