In a sheer act of desperation,a CCC councillor wrote a bogus letter advising residents of Budiriro about a residential stands meeting when it was a political event to mobilise demos ahead of the coming SADC summit.

Speaking to this publication,a source close to the development, revealed that the Ward 30 councillor Charles Chidhagu wrote a bogus letter allegedly credited to Harare City Council housing director Aaron Nhekairo.

This publication obtained the copy which informed of “a meeting with members of Stars Consortium Housing Pay Scheme”.

“The meeting is to be held at an open space opposite High Glen Shopping Centre in Budiriro Township, on Saturday 6 July and Wednesday 10 July 2024 from,” it further states.

However, the police did not clear the meeting but Chidhagu went on to illegally convene the meeting where he turned it into a political rally.

After police failed to clear the meeting, Chidhagu went on to mobilise around 200 residents on the pretext of a housing stands allocation meeting.

“Attendees were surprised when the agenda changed with Chidhagu openly saying residents should get agitated and emulate the Kenyans.
“He said the SADC presents an opportunity for the opposition to register its displeasure on how things are turning out in the country, ”said a source.

A resident who only identified himself as Wasu told this publication that he had the guts to ask what the agenda of the meeting was but was insulted and labelled a Zanu PF activist.

“I got very upset when I tried to remind the Councillor about the contents of the letter, many started accusing me of being a Zanu activist,” Wasu said.

Chidhagu is said to have mocked the Zanu PF restructuring exercise and using it as a an excuse to mobilize.

“The Police allow zanu pf people to do theie cells but do not allow us to gather why ?” He charged before asking the people to ‘wait for a signal’ to flood the streets.

He wound off the meeting by promising homeseekers to approach a council employee, Munyaradzi Pindura.

“It was indeed shocking to here the councillor saying all homeseekers even those not on the waiting list should get in touch with council’s Munyaradzi Pindura pay him US$ 5 000 .He said in 2 weeks they will have their offer letters.
“This is a brazen act of corruption,” alleged one council worker who attended the meeting.

Repeated efforts to get in touch with Nhekairo were fruitless.
