Vows Allegiance to Democratic Ideals
By Edward Makuzva
In a twist of political drama, FORUS Party has unequivocally distanced itself from its former spokesperson, Thandazani Moyo, whose recent comments have sparked widespread debate. The party, known for its staunch advocacy of democratic governance and electoral fairness, moved swiftly to clarify that Moyo’s views no longer align with its principles following his resignation and departure from the party ranks.
Dismissing allegations of instigating protests against the incumbent government as mere conjecture, FORUS Party emphasized its unwavering commitment to resolving issues through peaceful and democratic channels. This declaration comes amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions, where political rhetoric often blurs the lines between fact and fiction.
Moreover, the party voiced deep disappointment over what it described as a breach of confidentiality by Gambakwe Media, which aired private discussions involving FORUS Party’s President, Manyara Irene Muyenziwa, and the SADC Secretariat. This breach, facilitated by Moyo, underscored the challenges of maintaining privacy in an increasingly transparent political landscape.
Addressing regional dynamics, FORUS Party affirmed its cooperative ties with the Southern African Development Community (SADC), stressing that recent dialogues focused on electoral reforms rather than interventionist agendas. The party clarified that while SADC plays a pivotal role in upholding democratic standards across Southern Africa, it lacks the legal framework to mandate fresh elections in Zimbabwe, preferring instead diplomatic engagements over coercive measures.
Highlighting the pivotal role of independent observers like the SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM), FORUS Party acknowledged their critical contributions in monitoring electoral processes, thereby ensuring transparency and accountability in Zimbabwe’s democratic exercises.
The party reiterated its unwavering commitment to democratic values, pledging to collaborate closely with regional stakeholders to foster a climate of inclusive governance and electoral integrity. As Zimbabwe navigates its political future, FORUS Party stands as a steadfast advocate for democratic norms amidst an evolving regional landscape.
