MAZOWE – Three people have been arrested after police intercepted them with unregistered medicines and undeclared bales of second-hand clothes at a roadblock in Mashonaland Central.
Confirming the arrests, Zimbabwe Republic Police Mashonaland Central spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe said the suspects were picked up on 06 August 2026 at around 0629 hours at the 40.5km peg along the Harare-Mukumbura road.
“The accused persons are Artwell Sixpence (27) of Mupangira Village under Chief Musana in Bindura, Mejury Mupeusa (29) of O-31 Tsungubvi, Glendale, Memory Sixpence (33) of number 992 Rujeko in Glendale,” Mundembe said.
According to Inspector Mundembe, a team of officers from ZRP Mazowe Traffic Support Unit and CID were conducting a security roadblock when they intercepted a white Suzuki Hatchback travelling from Harare.
“A search was conducted and they recovered from the boot of the vehicle, 4 boxes, each containing 20 by 100mls of Novalyn Cough Expectorant, 4 boxes, each containing 50 by 100mls of Fenelyn Expectorant, and 3 bales of second-hand clothes,” Inspector Mundembe said.
Mundembe further confirmed that during questioning, Artwell Sixpence told police he was transporting the two women and the goods that he had picked up in Harare and was proceeding to Glendale.
The two women told police they had bought the bales at Mupedzanhamo Market in Harare. They further claimed they collected the alleged medicine from an unknown person in Harare who instructed them to deliver it in Glendale to someone they only knew by cellphone number.
The three were taken to ZRP Mazowe for documentation and are being charged with contravening Section 29 of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act.
Inspector Mundembe urged members of the public to desist from abusing medicinal drugs and to shun drug and substance abuse for the good wellbeing of the country.
“We appeal to all members of the public with information about drug dealings to contact the police. The information will be treated with confidentiality,” he said.
Police said investigations are continuing to establish the source and intended recipient of the medicines.
