MVUMA – A fatal stabbing in Mushayabvudzi, Mvuma, on January 31, 2026, has left a 24-year-old man dead and his landlord in custody. Tanaka Musiiwa was allegedly stabbed by Aleck Chaminuka (25) over a dispute involving dinner and a suspected affair.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Midlands provincial spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Chaminuka was enraged that his wife, Caroline Hofisi (23) had not prepared food for him, but later accused Musiiwa of being involved in a secret relationship with her.
“The suspect in the case, Aleck Chaminuka (25) was a landlord to the now deceased Tanaka Musiiwa (24). Circumstances are that, on 31 January 2026 at around 20:00 hours, Chaminuka arrived home from Chivhu where he works and discovered that his wife Caroline Hofisi (23) had not prepared food for him. She cited that she had just arrived from church,” Mahoko said.
“A despute ensued over the issue, with Caroline resorting to seek refuge in Tanaka Musiiwa’s room where she was welcomed by Portia Zigahwi (19), the wife of Musiiwa. Portia then informed her husband about the dispute between Chaminuka and Caroline,” Mahoko added in a statement.
“Later, Musiiwa arrived home and Chaminuka accused him of being in love with his wife. An altercation degenerated between the two while their wives were inside Musiiwa’s bedroom,” he added.
“Chaminuka then allegedly took a knife and stabbed Musiiwa once. Neighbours took Musiiwa to Mvuma District Hospital, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” Mahoko said.
Chaminuka has since been arrested and is in police custody as investigations continue.
Police urge calm, emphasising peaceful conflict resolution. Chaminuka faces murder charges as investigations continue.
