GLENDALE – In a heartwarming display of generosity, renowned philanthropist and traditional healer Sekuru Nyangatayani, born Peter Chingudzi, has handed over school fees and stationery to various less privileged and differently-abled learners at Glengrey Primary School. The donation, which includes stationery for teachers, is part of Sekuru Nyangatayani’s commitment to giving back to the community, particularly among the less privileged members.

“This is just the beginning, we will be covering three terms throughout the year, especially amongst differently-abled and other less priviledged learners. As a traditional healer, it’s our duty to contribute to the well-being of our community, and education is key to unlocking their potential,” Nyangatayani said.

Glengrey Primary School Headmaster, Mr. Rufasi Kondo, welcomed the gesture, saying the donations have bridged the marginalisation and discrimination gaps between rural and urban learners.

“This donation has empowered rural and farming communities whose bulk of parents are poor farmworkers who face difficulties in paying fees. It has bridged the marginalisation gap between the rural poor and urban learners,” Kondo said.

Kondo also appreciated the gesture amongst teachers, who received donations including chalks, books, and ballpoints, saying it would ease their work as expected by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Glengrey School Development Committee chairperson, Mr. Wilbert Chaurika, praised Sekuru Nyangatayani’s donation, saying, “This gesture shows that traditional healers also contribute towards revival and preservation of culture. It’s a clear testimony that there is existence of moral and ethical decency amongst community leaders.”

“There’s a mutual relationship between complementing sustainable education and cultural preservation through embracement of heritage-based education curriculum,” Chaurika added.

Glengrey Primary School teacher, Silvia Kaputa, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We’ve experienced learners who spent the whole term without enough resources. Poverty and economic hardships are the major causes. This donation is a huge relief.”

The donation has brought hope and joy to the learners and teachers, and serves as an inspiration to others to contribute to the betterment of their communities.
