Two Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers are in trouble after they allegedly stole a Toyota Hilux that was being kept as exhibit at the police camp in Bulawayo.

Master Genti (39) and Richard Kiri (56) were arrested and dragged to court facing theft of motor vehicle charge.

The duo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shingirai Mutiro, who remanded them in custody to January 9.

The state alleged on December 18, Kiri was arrested for prospecting for gold without a license, and his Toyota Hilux registration number AEK 1003 was impounded.

On Christmas Eve Kiri and Genti who are both detectives from Flora and Fauna Unit, Bulawayo Station hatched a plan to steal the vehicle which was being held as exhibit.

They took duplicate keys and switched on the engine and tried to reverse while he lights were off.

An alert cop on night duty managed to see the car reversing and pounced on the duo.

Genti managed to escape while Kiri was arrested and put in cells while his accomplice was arrested on Christmas day.
