The State of Palestine strongly condemns the provocative storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and groups of extremist settlers, carried out under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces.
This action is a flagrant violation of international law and a direct assault on the historical and legal status quo of the holy site.
In a statement, Palestine Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr Tamer Almassri highlighted that,
- the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound is not an isolated act, but part of a broader pattern of deliberate provocations by Israel that deeply offend the sentiments of Muslims and Christians worldwide. These repeated actions have dangerously heightened tensions in the region, pushing the situation to the brink.
Ambassador Almassri reaffirmed that the ongoing systematic provocations including assaults on Christian communities and renewed calls for annexation — have further inflamed an already tense environment, dangerously edging the region closer to a full-scale regional conflict.
“The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is nothing short of catastrophic, with over 60,000 Palestinians killed and 12,000 more buried under the rubble. The international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye to these atrocities, and it is imperative that urgent action is taken to bring an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people”, Ambassador Almassri explained.
Furthermore, “the ongoing Israeli bombardment and starvation in Gaza, which has lasted for over 660 days, has resulted in the senseless slaughter of 28 children per day.” Almassri highlighted.
Meanwhile, the State of Palestine calls upon the international community to condemn these actions in the strongest possible terms and to take concrete steps to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law.
The continued silence and inaction of the international community in the face of these atrocities have only emboldened Israel to continue its aggression, and it is imperative that this complicity is brought to an end.
